What to Expect

Dancers develop many skills while in our Academy.

I treat each student -- child or adult -- as an individual and I work with them in regard to their own levels of learning.  I realize that no two people or dancers are alike, so I encourage every one to go at their own pace.

Senior Ceili Team at Eastern Regionals

All of the students are very considerate with helping one another along.  Students receive individual attention, praise and encouragement for all of their efforts.

I encourage any new student to join at any time of the year.  I have some of my senior students available to help "catch up" anyone who may be new to dancing, children or adults.

Please visit our About Us page to learn more about the Academy, our motto and the teacher.

Benefits of Irish Dance

There are may benefits of learning Irish dance aside from the steps.  As a student of Irish dance, you can develop many traits including:

  • Pride in yourself and your work
  • A sense of teamwork and good sportsmanship
  • A self-discipline and confidence
  • Interpersonal skills
  • A better understanding of the Celtic traditions through music and dance

"Old Faithfuls" Adult Ceili Team

Not to mention the motivational skills and aerobic abilities developed when partaking in this form of dance.

Good exercise + good camaraderie + a sense of tradition = FUN!

Clothing and Costumes

Annual Fund-raiser, May 2000

Each year, our school organizes a fund-raiser dance to help defray the cost of the costumes for the children. A good time is had by all, thanks to the dedication and hard work of many of the dancers and parents.

Additionally, as a result of the fundraiser, our school gives out college scholarships to graduating seniors and FULL year Irish dance scholarships to lucky dancers. We also help to support three local sports programs in our neighborhood parishes.

For more on our costumes, please visit our Class Schedule page.

Competitions
Competition is always the student's choice.  Many just come each week to enjoy themselves (or the adults just like a night out!) and that is fine by me!

We love what we do and hope that anyone who has seen us perform will realize that.

I try to encourage my students that winning is not the most important thing, but rather pride in themselves and all that they have accomplished.

I remind them of how far they have come and how far they still have to go.

Toward the Future
In the past few years we have developed a school newsletter, which is produced bi-monthly, and designed new school T-shirts and hats.

Annual Class Trip to New Haven, CT
Feis & Fair, June 2000

Each year we run a bus trip to a feis for a fun day out dancing and playing.  We bring picnic lunches and spend the day.  There are games for the kids, and bands and dancing for the parents.

We currently have a large number of students in both our children and adult classes, and we always welcome new members to our family!
