What
is the difference between classes? None of the performances or competitions is mandatory, but 80 percent of the class is participating in them and the dancers should be aware of that before they start. Additionally, if you plan on performing or competing, you must purchase a school costume (see explanation on costumes below). Classes held on Thursdays in the Dance With Me Studio are taught in a "non-competitive" format. The dancers are encouraged to participate in class every week and will perform in the school recital at the end of the year. The costumes here are usually simple and not as expensive. They are generally about $75 and are usually a skirt/shirt with Celtic design or a kilt and blouse, etc. It's a great way to get started in Irish dancing or for those who are not looking for a big commitment! This is a fun and easy way to learn the beautiful art of Irish dance. |

Costumes Our costumes are made in Australia and are traditional green/white and gold with the Tara Brooch design. They are featured in many of the photos on our Web site. It seems like an initial shock to the parent, but take into consideration that with other dance schools (with tap/ballet, etc) you may buy two or more costumes each year at the cost of $150 or more and wear them only once. This is the only costume your dancer will ever need until they outgrow it. Our dancers generally get 2-3 years out of their costumes as our dressmakers always allow room for growth. Every May, our school holds a fund-raiser dance. Each parent who has purchased a new costume that year will receive $100 back from the profits of the dance to help defray the cost. When the dancer outgrows the costume, I have a "used dress sale night" where you will have the venue to sell the dress to another student (or you may initially be able to purchase a new costume your first year in). Generally, costumes kept in good condition re-sell at half the original value. Therefore, with your refund and resale, your new costume may only cost you approximately $200 over 2-3 years of use, and if you choose to be active in our outings, you will most definitely get a great deal of use out of your costume! |
